PLASTIC FREE ANAND MARATHON

‘PLASTIC FREE ANAND MARATHON’ was organised by the students of APIED, on 7thFebruary 2010.
"We breathe better, if u recycle your clutter"

The 2.5 km long marathon attracted the attention of the people towards “REDUCING, RECYCLING AND REUSING” the clutter, an idea which is now considered seriously now-a-days.

With the slogan, students encouraged the idea of "PLASTIC FREE LAND"

"PLASTIC WASTE” is a problem which the world is worried about, but no one is taking firm steps. This event highlighted the concern of the students and civilians of Anand towards the menace.

With the ceremony of offering flowers to the Bhaikaka’s statue, the commencement of an event was at 6.30 am and ended at Town hall, with the oath of being “PLASTIC FREE”. The marathon was inaugurated by chief guest Shri C.L.Patel, Principal of APIED Ar. Percy Pithawala & Prof. Nanak Pamnani.


About 550 students from various S.P.U. colleges actively ran for a cause of awareness. To complete the marathon at the first place was the student from C.P.M. College, Rahul Damor.

Few of senior citizens completed the marathon and set and example for youth saying

"If you have the courage you can do it.”

SPOTLIGHTING MARATHON ON THE TIMES OF INDIA's PAGE


Students and support staff of APIED have decided to kick start their annual college festival Tamir in a unique way by organising a Marathon for Eco-cause. Following a green theme this year, a special ‘Plastic-free Anand Marathon’ has been organised on February 07. The marathon shall run a distance of 2.5 kms from Bhaikaka Statue to Town hall. Participants shall join the cause of reducing use of plastic and promoting hygienic garbage disposal practices so that plastic littering and the consequent environmental damage can be prevented. Kamal Patel, Co-ordinator of the event says, “ The citizens of green Anand and Vidyanagar shall strive to make our city free of plastic waste.”
